There is a story that is usually told about extremely successful people, a story that focuses on intelligence and ambition. Gladwell argues that the true story of success is very different, and that if we want to understand how some people thrive, we should spend more time looking around them-at such things as their family, their birthplace, or even their birth date. And in revealing that hidden logic, Gladwell presents a fascinating and provocative blueprint for making the most of human potential.

William Morrow | English | August 19, 2014 | ISBN: 0062130544 | 416 pages | azw, epub, lrf, mobi | 3,8 mb

Santo can certainly craft her words and is well-thought out in her writing, but Three Story House never really captured me. I struggled night after night to care about the characters. I prefer to read a story chronologically rather than skipping around in time. It's just too confusing for me and it gets to the point that I don't want to read on long enough to figure out "OK - she's this old now, has what I just read previously already happened to her or not?"

Love Is a Story: A New Theory of Relationships

Love Is a Story: A New Theory of Relationships

Robert J. Sternberg "Love Is a Story: A New Theory of Relationships"
Oxford University Press, USA | 1999-06-03 | ISBN : 0195131028 | Pages: 256 | PDF | 9.80 MB

What draws us so strongly to some people and repels us from others? What makes some relationships work so smoothly and others burst into flames? Sternberg gives us new answers to these questions by showing that the kind of relationship we create depends on the kind of love stories we carry inside us. Drawing on extensive research and fascinating examples of real couples, Sternberg identifies 26 types of love story–including the fantasy story, the business story, the collector story, the horror story, and many others–each with its distinctive advantages and pitfalls, and many of which are clashingly incompatible. These are the largely unconscious preconceptions that guide our romantic choices, and it is only by becoming aware of the kind of story we have about love that we gain the freedom to create more fulfilling and lasting relationships. As long as we remain oblivious to the role our stories play, we are likely to repeat the same mistakes again and again. But the enlivening good news this book brings us is that though our stories drive us, we can revise them and learn to choose partners whose stories are more compatible with our own.

On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared. It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane’s bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard. So began one of the most extraordinary odysseys of the Second World War. In her long-awaited new book, Laura Hillenbrand writes with the same rich and vivid narrative voice she displayed in Seabiscuit. Telling an unforgettable story of a man’s journey into extremity, Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit.
